Here is a post about weheartit, anger, and the difficulties of self-promotion.

tuesdayblouse:

Today, I found this illustration of mine, cropped, and uncredited, for the third time, on my tumblr dashboard.
As an artist, I understand, that without a water mark, things get lost, and strewn around the internet without credit; this happens, because people are lazy, don’t know the source, or are unaware of the damage it can cause.
I choose not to watermark my drawings, because I don’t think people would enjoy my work as much with a watermark, and I like to think if people like my work enough to post it, they will do so properly, with credit. I’m not specifically asking to be notified when you post my work - I just expect respect - but that comes most of the time when people enjoy what you do.

In this particular case a lady with a blog posted a cropped version of my drawing (seen above) taken from my flickr, and credited, rightly, back to my flickr. However, she posted this from her blog, to her weheartit account, and then credited the picture back to her blog. That’s not fair is it? Why bother crediting in the first place? Humf.

EDIT
: just found another of my drawings, uncredited, on her blog. No respect.

I found this post of my drawing with almost 12,000 notes. This means, that 12,000 people have appreciated my work, without knowing who made it.

This is what annoys me the most.

There is nothing better than knowing your work is appreciated, but also, imagine how many people I might have reached if it was credited? I know alot of people reblog pretty stuff just for the sake of it, but how many hundreds of artists might have reblogged it thinking ‘oh, that’s nice, maybe i’ll check who drew it’ (which is my frame of mind whenever i reblog ANYTHING i find visually appealing.)

It’s frustrating as a student to know you’re getting kicked to the bottom at an early stage, and I know professionals get fucked over all the time (e.g. Gemma Correll) BUT IT DOESN’T MAKE IT OKAY.

So i sent the lady an email, and I intend to hunt down all the uncredited things I can, and RIGHT THEM. As this blog about plagiarism rightly puts; You Thought We Wouldn’t Notice.

If you are interested in how I tackled this issue, you can read the email I sent to Camilla
If you agree, and care about artists getting the credit they deserve, CHECK that what you’re re-blogging has not come from weheartit. DO NOT USE weheartit. And encourage your friends NOT TO USE weheartit.

Also please reblog and spread the word.

Suck my balls weheartit.

I FEEL YOU SISTER
